Community Development Worker, Westland Area

You'll help residents to bring about social change and improve the quality of life in their local area. You will work with individuals, families or whole communities, to identify their assets, needs, opportunities, rights and responses.

Tasks will include:

  • Identifying community skills, assets, issues and needs
  • Ensuring that local people have their say
  • Undertaking direct community capacity-building work where required and as outlined by neighbourhood area plans, whilst always adopting a community development approach.
  • Assisting to co-ordinate, maintain and market a wide programme of activities within the Westland area therefore ensuring the effective development, planning and delivery of special programmes, projects, festivals and events.
  • Developing new resources in dialogue with the community and evaluating existing programmes
  • Building links with other groups and agencies
  • Helping to raise public awareness on issues relevant to the community
  • Providing governance advice to community groups
  • Preparing monthly progress reports, attending monthly appraisal meetings and quarterly monitoring/evaluation meetings
  • Developing and implementing strategies
  • Liaising with interested groups and individuals to set up new services such as advice services etc
  • Recruiting local volunteers
  • Planning, attending and coordinating meetings and events
  • Overseeing the management of a limited budget
  • Encouraging community participation in activities
  • General administrative duties.
  • Any other duties required in keeping with the post

This is a temporary fixed term post funded initially from 01 Feb 2021 to 31 March 2021 (two months) with the potential to extend from 01 April 2021 to 31 March 2022 subject to funding and satisfactory completion of probationary period.
