Children's Support Worker

Main Purpose of Job:
• To provide a holistic supportive service to young parents who have previously been in the care of the SEHSCT
• To work directly with the children providing practical support to promote the best outcomes for the families
The children’s support worker will:-
- Ensure the safe keeping of the children and advising parents of ways to do the same
- Provide and deliver a stimulating environment in the group setting to encourage appropriate play and social interaction / development for the children
- Deliver program of structured activity, positive parenting and appropriate boundaries.
- Act as a role model for the parents in terms of teaching the children to play, positive interaction with the children, appropriate boundary setting including when out shopping and eating at a table etc.
- Care for the physical and emotional needs of the children.
- Listen to and encourage the children in play techniques.
- Advise the Line Manager of any concerns regarding child development or child protection.
- Attend any supervision sessions, training or team meetings as required
- Be aware of the particularly vulnerable nature of the client group
- Keep professional confidentiality.
- Work alongside the Parent Support Worker in agreeing plans of support with the young parents with specific emphasis on direct support of the child eg respite, transport, diversionary activities and reviewing progress every 6 months.
- Support parents to prepare for baby and develop routines once baby is born.
- Liaise and communicate effectively with other agencies / professionals.
- Maintain professional boundaries with young parents, children and other professionals at all times.
- Keep full, accurate and up to date records as per BCM requirements.
- Support the work of BCM volunteers.
- Other duties as required.
