North Down & Ards Women’s Aid provides a range of support services for women and children experiencing domestic and sexual violence.

SUMMARY OF POST:          

 

  • Self-help is important in the philosophy of Women’s Aid.  Workers will be responsible for promoting the practice of self-help by empowering and supporting mothers in their relationships with their children.

 

  • To enable children and young people who have experienced domestic and sexual violence to access safety and support and to address the impact of domestic violence upon their lives and make informed choices about their future

 

  • To provide children and young people who have experienced domestic and sexual violence with a safe environment to express themselves.

 

  • To deliver creative and stimulating play sessions – to meet the social, emotional and intellectual development of children.

 

  • To assist in the delivery of training programmes in the local community.

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Consult with all project teams to identify and respond to the needs of children and young people with the appropriate supports and help.

 

  • Prepare risk assessment for child based activities in Centre, Refuge and local community settings.

 

  • To deliver crèche/playroom sessions in Refuge, Resource Centre and local community settings.

 

  • To facilitate and develop family work and group work programmes for children and young people aged 4-17 years old.

 

  • Provide one to one support and information to children and young people as appropriate.

 

  • Provide support for all mums whose children are accessing children’s services.

 

 

  • Liaise with schools and statutory agencies, including attending case conferences and any other core group meetings as required.
  • To organise and participate in social outings for children and young persons accessing NDAWA services.

 

  • To deliver Teacher’s training for the Helping Hand programme and awareness training for Children’s Services.

 

  • To work within and adhere to all organisational policies and procedures including and not limited to Safeguarding Child Protection, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Health and Safety.

 

  • To participate in the Refuge On-Call 24 hour rota.

 

  • Provide verbal and written reports and statistics relating to the work when required ensuring requirements from funders are met.

 

  • Attend relevant team/organisation meetings and training.

 

  • Respect the confidentiality of all information received as a result of the post holder’s duties.

 

  • Carry out any other duties as required.
