Ashton Community Trust (ACT) is a community-based regeneration charity which was established in 1991 with a mission ‘To promote positive change and improve the quality of life of the North Belfast community’.

Ashton Community Trust (ACT) is a community-based regeneration charity which was established in 1991 with a mission ‘To promote positive change and improve the quality of life of the North Belfast community’. It currently employs over 200 people and has a turnover of over £7m per annum. Last year in salaries alone ACT put £3.2m back into the North Belfast economy. Ashton is committed to delivering economic as well as social benefit to all communities across North Belfast.

It delivers critical services that are in line with local need including: childcare, young people, mental health and wellbeing, training and employment, property maintenance, facilities management and digital fabrication. Ashton has ten buildings in North Belfast from which diverse services are delivered to people of all ages.

Ashton Community Trust would like to invite individuals to join our board who share our values and are willing to support our work. 

We are keen to receive enquires from all sections of the community and would particularly welcome people with the skills and experience in one or more of the following:

  • Leadership
  • Strategy Planning
  • Finance
  • Governance/Legal
  • URBAN Regeneration

Terms & Approximate Time Commitment

The Chair will serve a three-year term and be eligible for re-appointment for one additional term.

In addition to chairing the main Board meetings, the Chair has the right to attend the sub-committees.

Time Commitment: No of meetings per year:

  • ACT board meetings – a minimum of 7 meetings per year, approximately 2 hours per meeting
  • Monthly Chair & CEO meetings – 12 meetings per year, approximately 1.5 hours per meeting
  • AGM – 1 meeting per year, approximately 1 hour
  • Board review day – 1 per year, approximately 6 hours (includes preparation work)
  • Annual Performance Appraisal with CEO – approximately 2 hours
  • Nomination & Remuneration – as and when required
