A 3 day a week voluntary role based in the CAP Northern Ireland office (Belfast) during normal office hours (8.45am-5.00pm), working alongside the CAP Northern Ireland team across a wide range of roles and responsibilities.

Context:

Our vision is to see every Northern Irish Church passionately serving and including the poorest, whilst confidently proclaiming Jesus. 

We are committed to empowering the local church and therefore we invest in the support required for a church to run a CAP service well. We support and manage the network of centres as well as promoting CAP’s work with a wide range of external stakeholders and media.

This is a voluntary role.  The successful candidate can expect ongoing personal development and training opportunities during their time, such as a one to one personal development plan, access to CAP Head Office webinar training as well as attending local and national conferences. This 3 day a week voluntary role will be based in the CAP Northern Ireland office (Belfast) during normal office hours (8.45am-5.00pm)

Purpose:

The volunteer will have the opportunity to work alongside the CAP Northern Ireland team across a wide range of roles and responsibilities. This is a unique opportunity to develop and gain experience in an award winning charity. 

The role will provide an opportunity to work across the following responsibilities:

  • Organising and running events

  • Administrative duties and research

  • Promotion and publicity

  • Church Partnership

Role:

Working alongside the CAP Northern Ireland team, the volunteer will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of responsibilities and roles:

Events

  • Helping to plan, organise and attend CAP events

  • Creating event invitations, mailshots and supporting on event booking process

  • Post event administrative tasks

  • Potential phone support for new church enquiries and events

Church Partnership

  • Creating opportunities to represent CAP at various external events

  • Providing support for the Partnership Manager

  • Creating new leads with Churches interested in partnering with CAP

  • Enquiry administrative tasks – creating call lists, setting up meetings etc.

  • Researching churches in identified focus areas

Promotion and Publicity

  • Assisting with the creation of content for and managing the CAP NI twitter feed

  • Making contact with and seeking opportunities to promote the work of CAP NI via local press (newspapers and radio)

  • Engaging with Northern Irish Christian press and creating publicity opportunities for CAP

  • Developing a referral organisations database for Northern Ireland

  • Clearly live out and embrace the cultural values of CAP.

  • Clearly demonstrate a heart and passion for the charity.

  • Sincere acceptance, understanding and practice of the Christian ethos and purpose of the Charity.

 

Other Responsibilities include:

  • Being willing to pray with staff and be fully engaged with our Christ centered  culture.

  • To encourage friends, family and other contacts to support the charity through the Life Changer program, and other fundraising initiatives.

Person:

Education:

  • A reasonable level of education 

 Desirable Experience:

  • Experience of having to work using your own initiative

  • Evidence of passion for the poor

  • Experience in using social media

  • Experience in design software / photography 

Desirable Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent written communication skills

  • Ability to use initiative and work independently

  • Good organisational skills.

  • Adaptable

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions 

  • Ability to see through a project from start to finish

Christian Commitment:

  • The volunteer must be able to give both verbal assent to and practical demonstration of Christians Against Poverty’s Statement of Faith and Core Values

  • Actively participate in prayer and worship, whether individual, small group or corporately, as an expression of own personal faith and in line with CAP’s Statement of Faith.

 

All adults working in, or on behalf of the CAP have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults. This includes a responsibility to ensure a safe environment in which CAP Services can be delivered. Identify children and adults where there may be safeguarding concerns and to follow the CAP Safeguarding Policy in addressing any concerns appropriately.
