Campaigns Volunteer

Parkinson's UK

We want to ensure that no matter where people affected by Parkinson's live they receive the support and treatment they need. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. We need volunteers to change that. Could you help?

What the role involves

We want to ensure that no matter where people affected by Parkinson's live they receive the support and treatment they need.

Too many find it impossible to get the excellent quality care they need. Or they don’t get the best service from the welfare, health and social care system because it simply doesn’t understand Parkinson’s.

We’re building a team of volunteers who can work in their local area to address the needs of people affected by Parkinson’s.

We’ll provide you with training on speaking persuasively to politicians and decision makers, and you’ll work with other volunteer campaigners to share ideas and experiences. Together as a team we’ll push decision makers to push for better services and together we can make things better for people affected by Parkinson’s.

What you could get out of volunteering

You'll be part of a vibrant UK-wide team influencing politicians and decision makers on the importance of support for people with Parkinson's.

You will:

• Learn and develop valuable skills; like leadership, teamwork, campaigning, negotiating and communication.

• Do something meaningful for people affected by Parkinson's, ensuring their voices are heard locally and supporting improvements in your local area.

•  Gain experience working with a busy Campaigns team in a national charity and learn how to lobby politicians and influence decision makers

•  Meet new people and make new friends, both within Parkinson's UK and in the local community

•  Be part of an innovative and inclusive organisation committed to finding a cure and improving life for everyone affected by Parkinson's.

What we’re looking for and why

We don't expect you to be an expert in campaigning or have met your MP before. We'll provide training on how to campaign and grow relationships with decision makers.

You will have:

  • A passion to improve your local area for people with Parkinson's
  • Great listening and communication skills - able to explain complex information simply
  • Ability to work independently
  • Great organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to travel locally (travel costs will be reimbursed in line with our expenses policy)
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable:

Confidence to talk about Parkinson's and the importance of everyone affected getting the support and treatments they need. You will receive an induction on Parkinson's as part of the role.
