Befriending Volunteer - Health & Wellbeing Project

We’re recruiting volunteers for our project which is based in Rathgill, Kilcooley and surrounding areas. This volunteer role is ideal for someone who is interested in community development and who is an advocate for positive community relationships.

Volunteer Role Tile: Befriender 

Responsible to: Volunteer Co-ordinator

Expected Commitment: A minimum of 1 hour per month to several hours per week, worked remotely and at your discretion; flexible day/time

Location: 36 Hamilton Road, Bangor BT20 4LE

 

About Us:  We’re a Bangor-based Counselling Service & Therapy Centre, well-known for providing mental health and wellbeing services to people of all ages. We provide a safe and confidential environment with a diverse range of complementary practices, such as talking therapies, life coaching, CBT, holistic therapies and yoga. Our mission is to provide an exceptional counselling service, where our multi-disciplinary approach is provided in a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space.

 

Primary Objectives: Volunteers will be responsible for befriending a member of our community to help reduce their social isolation, promote their independence and improve their self-confidence, emotional health and wellbeing. We’re looking to recruit volunteers who are excited to raise awareness of uHub’s services and to talk about our project. This role is best suited to someone who is keen to engage with their local community in a remote capacity using phone and internet.

 

You must be able to work in a remote capacity, using phone, email and/or video call. Any experience in mental health and community work is preferred, but don't let this stop you from applying! Volunteers must live in the North Down area. Over 18s only

 

What we’re looking for:

  • A reliable person who has a genuine interest in their local community and who desires to make a difference in the lives of others, especially those in need of support
  • Good communication skills
  • Patience and a warm, friendly attitude
  • Someone based in the North Down area
  • Must have access to a phone and internet
  • Be willing to complete an Access NI background check
  • Have no previous criminal convictions
  • Over 18 years old

 

Volunteer responsibilities:

  • To be in contact a person with whom you have been matched and commit to building a relationship of friendship and trust
  • To contact your new friend regularly and encourage conversation, enabling them to have company
  • To complete a ‘contact sheet’ after each contact and participate in regular reviews with the Befriending Co-ordinator via video call
  • To liaise, at times, with uHub staff or other agencies as appropriate using email, video call or phone
  • To uphold uHub’s core principles, vision, culture and values and abide by the policies and procedures as per the uHub volunteer handbook
