As Base Coordinator you will have responsibility of up to 17 clients per day requiring the opportunity to meet and develop friendships and requiring support and connections to participate in community-based leisure activities.

Background to the BASE Project 

 

The purpose of the Base provision is “To enhance the social inclusion and development of friendships for adults with learning disabilities.” 

 

This project will support and enable service users to access mainstream sports, leisure and recreational activities, creating opportunities for fun and friendship. Staff will spend time with participants (in small groups and 1-2-1 situations using person-centered approaches), building confidence and self-esteem and planning to enable them to access a whole range of everyday social activities such as local clubs/groups, recreation schemes, sports, Shopping trips, cinemas, bowling, and other leisure activities, thereby supporting participants and their families in becoming more familiar with opportunities in their own area and more engaged in their local communities.  

 

In addition, they will also work with providers to enable them to facilitate the needs of the service users, by carrying out training if and where appropriate, and on-going support re: adjustments/creating access to ensure longevity of engagement. 

  

The aims of each Base are as follows: 

 

  • Enable and support up to 17 x adults with a learning disability to meet and make friends;
  • Co-ordinate healthy lifestyles with local leisure centres and use of community and recreational facilities;
  • Provide in-door activities designed to stimulate self-growth and develop friendships such as arts and crafts, music, dance etc;
  • Provide accessible accommodation which will facilitate preparation of light snacks and chilled storage of packed lunches and has soft furnishings and equipment for inclement weather conditions;
  • Maximise socially inclusive opportunities which will promote personal development and a positive sense of self;
  • Develop opportunities for adults with a learning disability who avail of supported employment, vocational activities and/or further educational pursuits to enjoy leisure time with friends in their local communities;
  • Recruit, develop and maintain a bank of volunteers;
  • Manage a steering group comprising users, carers & volunteers and Trust representatives to oversee the development of the service;
  • Liaise with Day Opportunities Co-Ordinators, LDT and Behavioural Support Teams to resolve any issues arising through attendance at Base.
