This role is responsible for payroll, accounts payable, banking, employee expense re-imbursements and bank management and reconciliations for Trócaire in Northern Ireland and has daily interaction with many parts of the organisation in headquarters.

This is a Specified Purpose contract  for a key role in Trócaire Northern Ireland based in Belfast. The Assistant Accountant is a pivotal role within the Finance Department. This role is responsible for payroll, accounts payable, banking, employee expense re-imbursements and bank management and reconciliations for Trócaire in Northern Ireland and has daily interaction with many parts of the organisation in headquarters. The Assistant Accountant will manage the information and transactions in the finance department and operate key internal controls.

Reporting to the Head of Region Northern Ireland, this is a part-time (22 hours per week) specified purpose contract (temporary absence cover, expected duration 7 months from December 2019) based at Trócaire’s office, 50 King Street, Belfast.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
•    Processing of Payroll
•    Pensions Administrator
•    Processing of payments/ transfers using Internet Banking
•    Process Creditors payments and statement reconciliation
•    Processing International Programme payments
•    Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations
•    Preparation of monthly Fund and Income reconciliations
•    Maintenance of petty cash for the Belfast office and monthly reconciliation’s of petty cash
•    Payment and checking staff expenses, including travel floats
•    Preparation of management accounts and monthly review and sign off with Head of Region
•    Assisting Head of Region in preparation and review of budgets
•    Preparation of Audit file at year end including accruals and prepayments and Salesforce/Agresso yearly fund reconciliation
•    Liaison with internal and external audit and implementation of audit recommendations
•    Management of Trócaire NI bank accounts and relationships with each bank 
•    Filings of audited accounts with Companies House and annual returns with Charity Commission Northern Ireland
•    Ensure compliance to all regulations and support Head of Region on areas of financial compliance for Trócaire Northern Ireland  
•    Active participation in team meetings and workshops as required in the Belfast office and Maynooth
•    Any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time


Person Specification – Essential Requirements 
(E) Qualification  

•    Accounting Technician or proven work experience
(E) Experience    

•    Must have prior experience of working in an accounts department 
•    Strong knowledge and proven experience with accounting system packages 
•    Good knowledge of using Microsoft Excel
•    Solid Understanding and experience of processing Bank Reconciliation’s
(E) Skills    

•    Communication skills.
•    The ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with management teams, colleagues and employees.
•    Good ICT skills including Microsoft Package.
•    Ability to prioritise workload and to work to deadlines.
•    Excellent organisational skills with particular attention to detail and accuracy.
•    Strong customer service orientation.

•    A team player, a professional approach with a can do attitude and collaborative style.
•    With an understanding of the importance of customer service in a support department.
•    Take ownership for problem solving and efficient working.
