Location: South Eastern Trust Region: Covering Downpatrick area also available for Ards /Lisburn/ Belfast.  Based at the Downshire Hospital and Co. Down area.

Salary: £24,000 to £26,000 per annum (pro rata)

Type of contract: 18 hours per week, 48 weeks per year (Service closed for 4 weeks per year).

Duration: Permanent

We empower and encourage the people who use our advocacy services to take a lead in securing the rights and services to which they are entitled. We offer: support to ensure that views are heard; representation; help to resolve issues; protection for those who are particularly vulnerable or are unable to make informed decisions. Advocacy can be provided long-term or for short-term crisis need.

 

The role purpose:

MindWise works to support people aged 18-65 years old, affected by mental illness to achieve a better quality of life.

The Advocates job purpose is to empower and support people to make informed decisions, empowering them to act for themselves with regards to their care, treatment and identify the choices available to them. The Advocate may support clients at Mental Health Review Tribunals, Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety Tribunals, Case Reviews, Discharge Planning Meetings and liaising with staff, mental health professionals, families and carers, on matters relating to individual clients.

The Advocate also works to help safeguard the rights of clients, particularly for those vulnerable clients who lack capacity to make decisions, including rights under Mental Health, Human Rights, and Social and Economic legislation.

 

Experience and knowledge and qualification required:

  • Certificate in Welfare Rights
  • Must have experience of providing Advocacy support and Advice to people with Mental Health difficulties.
  • Able to demonstrate good written communication skills.
  • Hold a valid driving license and have access to a car to carry out the duties associated with the post. Applicants who are registered disabled can use alternative forms of transport to enable them to carry out the duties associated with this post.
