Help offered

The PILS Project are a membership organisation. We offer a range of free services to our NGO and solicitor members to help them take strategic cases that have human rights or equality concerns at their core.

This support comes in several forms, as we tailor the help we provide to the specific needs of each of our members’ requests. If you are working for one of the NGOs or solicitor firms who has joined PILS as a member, we can:

* share initial legal information and advice

* source more detailed legal opinions, legal representation, research or training sessions through our network of supportive legal professionals (the PILS Pro Bono Register)

* provide direct legal representation ourselves by acting as instructing solicitor in a case

* give financial assistance

* provide training in our own right

* or organise networking events to give our members an opportunity to share learning and experience

Generally speaking, in order for PILS to be able to provide support, applications for assistance from our members should show that:

* the issue has a broad public interest (will have a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable or disadvantaged groups in NI),

* the issue involved is related to human rights or equality

* and solving the issue will have positive effects for many people (beyond one individual situation)
