ILS teaches the recognition and treatment of the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure) approach.
ILS knowledge and skills will enable first responders to recognise and start treatment in patients at the risk of deterioration and cardiac arrest.
1. Lectures
There are two lectures on this course:
- Causes and prevention of cardiorespiratory arrest - The lecture is immediately followed by ‘The ABCDE’ skill station.
- The ALS algorithm -This lecture covers the shockable and non-shockable sides of the algorithm. The lecture also includes the common cardiac arrest rhythms and how to monitor them.
2. Skill Stations
There are four Skill Stations on this course
- Skill Station 1 - The ABCDE approach
- Skill Station 2 - Initial resuscitation and defibrillation
- Skill Station 3 - Airway management
- Skill Station 4 - CASTeach.
This full day course is held in our custom built Training Suite and includes a morning coffee break and lunch.

Volunteer NowTraining/AdviceThis course is aimed at individuals who recruit, manage or supervise staff and volunteers working with children and/or adults. It will examine the procedures that need to be put in place for effective recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers including requirements under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order, the current and former definitions of regulated activity and how to exercise careful judgement when assessing information on an Access NI Disclosure Certificate. It will also look at the procedures required for the effective management of staff and volunteers including induction and training, breach of code of behaviour and referral to the Disclosure and Barring Service.- - -
