Join us for an evening of creative preparation ahead of Big Lunch day for neighbours 3 June. Come along and get creative, share some skills and pick up fun tips to make a community day beautiful on a budget. This will be a day to meet other people who are bringing The Big Lunch to their neighbourhoods, network and find out more about Eden Project Communities. Big Lunch 2018 plans, make decorations like bunting and table dressings, we will demo fun activities for kids and people of all ages, and have a Raw Food party foods demonstration. Please come along willing to share a skill or an idea and bring props to make this happen. At an event last year we had people offering hand massages, coaching, sound baths, yoga, saurkraut making, and new project idea exploration, so anything goes. At Big Lunches people have had music, ceilis, toy swap shops, Bingo, board games and all sorts of fun. We can also share nuts and bolts information and demonstrations if requested, including road closures. We will hold more Big Lunch prep events similar to this in other parts of Northern Ireland. Let us know if you would like us to come to your area. The good news is, you are welcome to bring your children along to this event, or a friend who may be interested in bringing the Big Lunch to another street, but you must book a ticket for them for catering numbers. Please be aware we will be taking photos at this event to share with the media and on social media if for any reason you are unable to be photographed notify us in advance.

Eden Project Communities

Have you ever thought about whether you enjoy your community? What part you play in it? Your influence and your impact?

We live in a digital age where we can connect with friends, family and colleagues all over the world in a heartbeat. But what do we know about the people who live right next door to us, or across the street? And what effect might knowing those who are our nearest, if not our dearest, have on us as individuals, on how we feel about where we live, and on society as a whole…?

The relationships we have where we live and work have a major impact on our health and happiness — people actually live longer if they have more frequent social contact.*

It's not just health that improves as a result. Having lunch with your neighbours, for example, doesn’t sound like the obvious way to tackle crime, reduce loneliness and isolation or quell community tensions. But the people who take part in The Big Lunch tell us they feel less isolated, that they feel safer where they live, and that people from different backgrounds come together and become friends. The experience leads people to do more in their communities, with many people starting new initiatives to benefit their whole community as a result.

We know that connected communities can tackle challenges better when they tackle them together. We support the doers, the mucker inners, the DIYers who make good things happen and take action, no matter how little that action may be, because small steps make a big difference.
