The Ullans Speakers Association was formed in 2008 by native Ulster-Scots speakers in an attempt to address some issues regarding the language and to promote and encourage its use. The Association engages the community to encourage everyday use of the language and to revive it in areas where it is becoming extinct.

Since it was set up the Association has also strived to work in partnership with organisations to help promote and develop the language. It recognises that much more needs to be done to reduce the stigma surrounding the language; and furthermore, to educate people about the significance and influence of Ulster-Scots on the English language.

The group is based in Ballymoney where it has opened an advice and interpretative centre from which it aims:

-       to promote, preserve and conserve the language as well as educating native speakers in the written form of Ullans

-       to provide a local educational resource for non-speakers to learn the language

-       to promote cultural confidence and civic pride, bolster morale of the community and harness the abilities of local people

-       to facilitate the examination, exploration and appreciation by all of Ulster-Scottish history heritage and culture in an open and positive manner to encourage mutual understanding

-       to provide facilities for the enjoyment of and participation in dance, music, history, dance, writing, the visual arts and other activities of a cultural nature

-       to organise or assist in organising classes, lectures, meetings, exhibitions, events and activities

-       to prepare, or assist in  the preparation of written, audio, or video material which records or explains the culture and traditions of local people

and to represent native speakers views when requested.
