Dove House Community Trust

Dove House was established in Derry City more than 30 years ago. From its base at Meenan Square in the Bogside, Dove House has been bringing a wide range of community services to the local Bogside and Brandywell community and through outreach to people of the wider Derry City and Strabane Council area.

Dove House has been relied upon for Vital community services in the city for more than 30 years.

A community development model was utilised to ensure that the concept of self-sufficiency became a core ingredient in all provision which was made in those earlier days. The centre was officially opened in November 1984 by Herman Verbeek MEP. The staffing of the centre in those early days was carried forth by a committed, passionate and enthusiastic team of volunteers who provided a range of education and arts classes to local people.

Many organisations throughout the city, for example Conradh na Gaeilge (now the beautiful Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin on Gt. James’ Street), The Nerve Centre, The Gasyard Development Trust, Gasyard Wall Féile and The Bogside & Brandywell Initiative to name a few were born out of projects, that have taken on a life of their own whilst housed within Dove House.
