Beat is Northern Ireland’s Carnival Arts company. 

Beat's mission is to grow Carnival in Northern Ireland and produce spectacular, participative Carnival Arts in ways that leave a legacy of creative skills, collaboration and celebration in our communities.

The Beat Initiative is an independent arts company working in the voluntary/non-profit/third sector. Our role is to promote and produce carnival arts, organise and direct performances, train and develop artists and encourage community participation in cultural collaboration and civic celebration.

Beat uses the Beat Carnival branding name and operates from The Beat Carnival Centre.

The Beat Carnival fulfils significant roles: locally in Belfast; regionally by developing and providing carnival arts across Northern Ireland; and nationally by working with partners across Ireland, the UK and in Europe. Beat often represents the developmental and engaging demonstration of Northern Ireland arts at international conferences and projects. 

Beat’s Purpose is to grow Carnival locally and produce spectacular, participative Carnival Arts in ways that leave a legacy of creative skills, collaboration and celebration in our communities. We are growing both the artform activities and the carnival community: and for the long term we are working strategically to make Carnival Northern Ireland’s big, shared, celebration.

Beat produces creative carnival programmes through artistic excellence, community training, cultural collaboration and civic celebration. It is our ambition to provide projects that beneficially engage the imagination of a broad range of audience from all sections of the community and deliver events that underline carnival’s place on the creative landscape.
