Eye Work employability programme seeks new applicants

We are currently seeking new applicants for the Eye Work project. This sought after project supports 20 blind and partially sighted people per year to develop the skills and experience necessary to gain employment.  It is delivered by Royal National Institute of Blind People Northern Ireland (RNIB NI) and funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), Department of Employment and Learning (DEL) and the Disability Employment Service (DES).

Ryan Bowes, Eye Work Project Officer, RNIB NI says:

“Almost 75 per cent of blind and partially sighted people of working age are unemployed.  This is compounded by the fact that blind and partially sighted people are more likely to leave school with fewer qualifications compared to their sighted peers.  This makes it even more difficult to gain employment or to move on to further education.  Eye Work improves participants’ employability and confidence.”

The programme involves participants committing to an eight week series of pre-employment workshops.  Topics covered include: job search, application forms and CV development, as well as interview practice with our dedicated team of employment officers.  During workshops participants will hear from a range of guest speakers including blind and partially sighted people currently in employment, and get insights from a diverse range of local employers who support Eye Work.
