Raising awareness and building momentum to reopen Northern Ireland's disused railways as a country-wide network of walkways and cycle paths.

Taking inspiration from projects like the Lagan Towpath, Comber Greenway, Newry Canalway, Connswater Community Greenway and Belfast Lough pathway, Northern Ireland has a unique opportunity to create over 600 miles of quality, safe, traffic-free, urban and rural leisure space.

Imagine the benefits for Northern Ireland - a 'signature' tourism project to attract active travellers from across the world; a network linking all of Northern Ireland's main tourist attractions; re-seeding the local hospitality and leisure business sectors; safe leisure space for families, schools and individuals; new community links between villages, towns and cities; an alternative for short private car journeys and commuting; encouraging healthier lifestyles and tackling obesity; educating and linking with our industrial and engineering heritage; regenerating urban environments; giving all of Northern Ireland safe, direct and useful access to the countryside.

Northern Ireland Greenways is a project to show our communities the possibilities on their doorsteps. Using satellite imagery we can see the routes, imagine the possibilities, and start the discussion.
