The Rainbow Project (TRP) seeks to fill the role of Sustainability Officer, a key role to sustain the vision and mission of The Rainbow Project by developing a programme of activities aimed at supporting the organisations sustainability.

Contract:                          1 Year Full Time post

Holidays:                           25 Days P. A. plus statutory holidays





The Rainbow Project (TRP) seeks to fill the role of Sustainability Officer, a key role to sustain the vision and mission of The Rainbow Project by  developing a programme of activities aimed at providing excellent Donor Relations, Community Fundraising activities, lead on Corporate and Commercial support activities and events, within a busy service environment working to support and improve the health and wellbeing of the LGBT community in Northern Ireland. The post is fixed term for one year, subject to review and continuation, and available as a full time role.


Overall Objectives of the Post

  • To sustain TRP’s vision and mission through the development of programmes of activity aimed at generating revenue funding.
  • Target audiences:
    • Trusts and Foundations: To support senior management in the development of funding applications to Trusts and Foundations for new and existing programmes
    • Individuals:  Increase one off donations; Increase monthly direct debits through the development of a donor database and regular donor and supporter communications.
    • Corporate support: Create a compelling case for support and target key corporate for small to medium donations
    • Commercial LGBT scene: Develop approaches (one off and on-going) to engage key individuals and venues in support of TRP’s fundraising efforts
    • Events: Establish a programme of events which generate resources by engaging members of the community and allies


Key Responsibilities

The Sustainability Officer will:

  • Develop and maintain excellent donor relations by:
    • Develop and implement a marketing and communications approach for the sustainability programme
    • Implement, co-ordinate and support TRP’s income generation strategy including agreeing fundraising targets across:
      • Individual donors
      • Private and Public enterprises
      • Commercial enterprises
      • Trust & Foundations
      • Events sponsorship and fundraising
    • Develop new and maintain current support relationships with companies, organisations, individuals and groups through TRP events and other fund-raising initiatives.
    • Develop and manage donor database.
    • In conjunction with Director and Managers co-ordinate cheque presentations from donor stakeholders.
    • Recruit, train, support and sustain volunteers.


  • In-house Community Fundraising
    • Coordination of community fundraising activities including event management, recruitment and fundraising support
    • Produce marketing materials for fundraising events and recruitment. Design and development of promotional materials, i.e. leaflets, postcards and flyers and liaise with printers
    • Manage fundraising equipment.
    • To identify Trusts and Foundations which support work in line with The Rainbow Project strategic priorities
    • Support senior management in the development of funding applications to Trusts and Foundations for new and existing programmes


  • Provide effective and efficient marketing and fundraising administration
    • Manage fundraising databases
    • HMRC point of contact including responsibility for preparation of Gift Aid claims
    • Daily record keeping
    • Respond to postal correspondence including compilation and distribution.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

-        Five GCSEs at grade C or above to include English;

-        One year full-time experience as a paid member of staff as fundraiser and/or marketing role including co-ordinating corporate, commercial, individual and group donor support; or three years similar experience as a volunteer;

-        Experience of producing promotional materials for print and online distribution, including details of software programmes used.

-        Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office

-        Experience of working on own initiative with limited on-going supervision.

Desirable Experience and Competencies

-        Understanding of issues affecting members of the LGBT community including but not limited to homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism;

-        Experience of working in the LGBT Sector as a volunteer or paid member of staff;



The Rainbow Project requires all posts within the organisation to carry a degree of flexibility in their execution of duties in order to assist the development of the organisation. Overtime is not paid but TRP operates a Time in Lieu policy. This Role Profile is not restrictive and the job holder may be required to undertake any other relevant duties and responsibilities as may be directed by the Director.
