CURRENTLY WE ARE MAPPING COMMUNITY GROUPS / LEADERS / ORGANISATIONS IN THE AREA

WOMAD:

WOMAD (World Of Music Arts & Dance) is the world’s most prestigious International Arts Festival spanning over 25 countries since 1980. WOMAD was co-founded by rock icon, Peter Gabriel and from the outset, the WOMAD name has reflected the festival’s idea; to be embracing but non-definitive, inspiring and outward looking; and more than anything, enthusiastic about a world that has no boundaries in its ability to communicate through music and movement. WOMAD also have been developing and delivering workshop programmes in various countries working with a local partner.

Beyond Skin:

Beyond Skin is an organisation based in Northern Ireland using music, art, multimedia and radio as a tool for diversity & global education in aim to address racism and sectarianism. Through a professional team representing over 40 nationalities we deliver world arts projects in Northern Ireland providing also creative opportunities to link with international partners. Established in 2004, Beyond Skin has acquired an outstanding reputation for developing and delivering, to a very high standard, professional, innovative & creative projects that generate positive outcomes.

WOMAD NI (WOMAD in Northern Ireland):

The WOMAD Outreach Programme in Northern Ireland offers high quality workshops in world music, arts and dance leading to showcase events. Between 2013 and 2016 a WOMAD workshop outreach programme will take place across Northern Ireland. Showcase WOMAD events will take place throughout Northern Ireland each year. WOMAD festivals in 2015 & 2017 in Belfast.

  • WOMAD workshop showcases in some areas will link into local community events/festivals.
  • Every participant in a WOMAD workshop programme is asked to perform or display their creative output, (Music, Arts or Dance) at a WOMAD showcase event.
  • To date since the launch in June 2013 over 300 workshops have taken place across N. Ireland with showcase events in Belfast & Ballymena, all of which have been very successful and received very positive feedback. www.womadbelfast.org/comments-testimonials.php

WOMAD Autumn Programme Causeway Coast & Glens

  • The next large WOMAD showcase event will be on the evening of Friday 19th September at Coleraine town hall.
  • As before in other areas leading up to previous showcases, workshops engaging local communities will take place, these will be facilitated by professional artists based in Northern Ireland and abroad as part of the WOMAD team.
  • An open WOMAD workshop event will also take place in Ballycastle Saturday 20th September.
  • WOMAD Causeway Coast & Glens September programme is a partnership between WOMAD UK, Beyond Skin, Coleraine, Limavady & Moyle Councils.
  • Everyone is welcome to attend the Showcase event and open workshops on the 19th & 20th September and Beyond Skin will be working closely between the councils to identify participating workshop programme groups.
  • Workshops will take place from 8th – 18th of September in Limavady, Moyle & Coleraine. Participants showcase their music, arts or dance performance at the event on the 19th September. Groups involved in WOMAD workshops in other regional areas (July – September) will also be presenting as the Coleraine Event.

Culture Night:

  • First launched in Dublin 2006, with Belfast, Holywood, Ards, Newry and Derry following a few years later. Culture Night is a night of entertainment across towns & cities. Arts and cultural organisations open their doors until late with free events, tours, talks & street performances for everyone to enjoy presented in a family friendly way.
  • The WOMAD Friday 19th September event will launch the first Culture Night in the Causeway Coast & Glens area with an invitation for people to showcase their culture in an inclusive, shared family friendly way. Culture night activities will compliment the main WOMAD activities in the area surrounding Coleraine Town Hall. As with other regional culture nights, people volunteer their services and certain conditions have to be met to ensure a high standard of health & safety and good practice.
