Volunteer Car Driver Patricia stars in BBC Lifeline Programme

Knockloughrim woman Patricia Laverty, a volunteer car driver with Out and About Community Transport in Mid Ulster, stars in this Sunday’s BBC1 Lifeline Appeal at 5.05pm.

The programme sends out two messages. It firstly tells people about community transport and secondly how volunteers can help to deliver much needed transport services in rural areas.

Community transport is the generic term for community-led transport solutions delivered on a not-for-profit basis by volunteers and community organisations across Northern Ireland.

Patricia takes comedian Tim McGarry for a short drive while explaining how much she enjoys giving people lifts in her car, as part of her volunteering role with Out and About Community Transport, based in Magherafelt.

Kellie Armstrong of the Community Transport Association (CTA) said “Patricia was a natural on camera - a film star as well as a community star.  I hope all Patricia’s friends and family tune in to see her in her starring role”.

The programme will be broadcast three times in the coming week:

SUNDAY                 11 October @ 17:05          on BBC 1

MONDAY                12 October @ 23:05          on BBC 1

WEDNESDAY         14 October @ 13:00          on BBC 2
