Success at Action Cancer's Annual Ladies Business Lunch

Laura Jackson, BDO, Gillian Thomson, Action Cancer and Maria McAllister, Bank of Ireland UK join David Meade to celebrate as a group of 130 business women representing over 20 companies have raised over £10,000 for Action Cancer’s breast screening service

A group of 130 business women representing over 20 companies have raised over £10,000 for Action Cancer’s breast screening service at the charity’s biggest event in the lead up to Breast Cancer Awareness Month at a lunch event held in The Great Hall, Queen’s University Belfast.

The event held in association with Bank of Ireland UK and BDO saw mentalist David Meade bring a fresh approach as he spoke about inspiring teams through business growth.

Each table of attendees was hosted by a local high profiled guest including Zoe Salmon, Cathy Martin, Pete Snodden, Brenda Shankey, Matthew McGovern and Michael McKillop.

Laura Jackson of BDO commented, “BDO have supported this event for a number of years and are proud of our association with Action Cancer. The lovely surroundings of the Queen’s University Great Hall combined with David Meade’s thought provoking presentation made this year’s event a huge success. It was also hugely inspiring to see so many ladies from the NI business community putting their time and effort into such a worthy cause as female cancer prevention.”

Maria McAllister of Bank of Ireland UK said, “The generosity of the business women in attendance never ceases to astound me. Bank of Ireland UK is very proud of this partnership with BDO and Action Cancer because it continues to deliver a valuable life changing contribution to the community. This year’s contribution brings the grand total raised over 3 years to £37,000 and speaker David Meade's focus on inspiring teams was invaluable and truly thought provoking both in terms of business life but for me personally it highlighted the importance of having and inspiring 'teams' who support us personally through life's challenges whether friends, family or teams like Action Cancer.”

Gillian Thomson of Action Cancer said, “We were delighted to have the involvement of so many organisations, particularly our sponsors BDO and Bank of Ireland UK.  The outcome is success on all fronts – most notably that we have raised funding to screen an additional 125 women, any one of which could be lifesaving.”
