PDSA Raises £1m through retail Gift Aid - find out how

The PDSA is the latest charity to exploit the value of Gift Aid on donated items - raising over £1m in two years through the sale of donated items in its charity shops. Learn how they did it.

In November 2006, Sue Ryder Care was the first charity in the UK to apply Gift Aid to goods donated to its charity shops. The move was been approved by HM Revenue and Customs albeit with a list of rules that must be followed.

PDSA, Help the Aged and British Heart Foundation duly followed their example but surprisingly, inspite of the tremendous results not every charity had followed suit.

NICVA has added guidance to its GrantTracker website on how to implement the scheme, with links to the criteria on the Revenue and Customs website.

A number of charities will also hear about the scheme at NICVA's Gift Aid Gold training event on Thursday which still has a few places left. To book your place for the next session on 19 November 2009, from 2.00pm to 4.30pm at NICVA. Please contact Roisin Kelly at roisin.kelly@nicva.org.
