Minister for Social Development seeks public's views

Margaret Ritchie, Minister for Social Development, will be holding a series of informal public meetings over the coming weeks and invites input from individuals and organisations delivering services in disadvantaged communities.

The meetings will be informal and the public will be invited to ask questions and air their views on the issues facing the Department for Social Development. The aim will be to explore the Minister's work and to seek views on the challenges facing her work as Minister and for the Department.

The Minister will discuss the challenges in tackling poverty and disadvantage in local communities and wishes to garner opinion and ideas around how her policy responsibilities can facilitate a 'normalising' of Northern Ireland society following years of conflict and stalemate.

The events, which will open with tea and coffee, will take place in the evenings from 7pm - 9pm on the following dates:

  • Thursday 20 August, Verbal Arts Centre, Londonderry
  • Tuesday 25 August, Sean Holywood Arts Centre, Newry
  • Thursday 27 August, Marine Court Hotel, Bangor
  • Thursday 3 September, Clinton Centre, Enniskillen
  • Friday 4 September, Omagh Library, Omagh
  • Tuesday 8 September, Radisson Hotel, Belfast
  • Thursday 17 September, St Patrick's Centre, Downpatrick
  • Tuesday 21 September, Lisburn Island Centre
