On Tuesday 29 September, a number of voluntary and community organisations attended a Media Speed Matching event at The Law Centre, Belfast. The event was aimed at promoting more effective working relationships between the voluntary sector and the media.
Speed matching is a concept devised by the Media Trust in Britain. Each individual from the sector was matched with a media person for five minutes in order to present to him or her details of their organisation and issues they wanted to be considered or taken up in the media.
By the end of the evening, representatives from the sector met with people from newspapers, radio, television and public relations and shared contact details in order to build on relationships afterwards.
Voluntary and community organisations represented at the event were Cause, Carers(NI), Citizens Advice Bureau, Age Sector Platform, Law Centre, Volunteering Development Agency, NICEM, NICVA and Housing Rights Service.
