Local group leads the way in connecting communities

Connecting Calry is one of 27 groups taking part in this year’s International Fund for Ireland (IFI) Community Leadership Programme, delivered by NICVA.

The group aims to bring all the communities in Calry, Co. Sligo, together in order to help build a stronger community infrastructure and community spirit.

Over the past nine months, Connecting Calry has been extremely busy taking part in free training sessions, round table events and organising and fulfilling a special project, all as part of their learning journey.

Margaret O’Connor from Connecting Calry stated;

“In addition to the free training our group has received through our own dedicated facilitator, we have also completed a number of projects including the introduction of a local newsletter, to help inform Calry about activities, events and other news of community interest.  The first newsletter was very well received, and we are already starting work on the next one, with a number of other local community groups contributing and sharing their own news and stories.”

Margaret continued;

Connecting Calry also organised its first event, back in October, with the help of a 2,750 euro grant from the IFI’s Community Leadership Programme.  The Halloween celebrations were a great success, with all activities well attended.  Since the event, Calry has seen a dramatic increase in community spirit.

It seems there is no stopping Connecting Calry now, who have since organised an additional three events, including a fundraiser for the Haiti disaster, further connecting people, connecting communities and connecting Calry.
