July CineSeekers Film Club movie: NI PREVIEW OF OSCAR-NOMINATED ‘SONG OF THE SEA’

The July CineSeekers Film Club movie, presented by Cinemagic Film Festival, is the Northern Ireland preview of the highly acclaimed, Oscar-nominated animation ‘Song of The Sea’, taking place on Saturday 4th July at Queen’s Film Theatre, Belfast.

Irish animator Tomm Moore follows his celebrated feature debut, The Secret of Kells, with another ravishing fantasy based on Irish folklore. Song of the Sea tells the story of Ben and his little sister Saoirse - the last Seal-child - who embark on a fantastic journey across a fading world of ancient legend and magic in an attempt to return to their home by the sea. The film takes inspiration from the mythological Selkies of Irish folklore, who live as seals in the sea but

become humans on land.

Song of The Sea features the voices of Brendan Gleeson, Fionnula Flanagan, David Rawle, Lisa Hannigan, Pat Shortt and Jon Kenny. Music is by composer Bruno Coulais and Irish band Kíla, both of whom previously collaborated on The Secret of Kells.

The CineSeekers Film Club is a monthly film event for young people organised by Cinemagic Film Festival. Based in QFT, the club's ethos is to promote and celebrate a diverse and varied range of international children's films. By providing our young audience with a regular outlet for world cinema, the aim is to develop and nurture a broader appreciation, understanding and love of film; as well as celebrating the stories, peoples and cultures from around the globe.
