Intergenerational Projects with FACT Project members

The FACT project was established to support the needs of the over 60s across Counties Fermanagh and Armagh and aims to reduce loneliness and isolation.

Intergenerational work is an integral part of The FACT Project.

Good relations between generations fosters respect both ways and has been proven as a factor in reducing anti-social behaviour.

The FACT project has recently hosted two Intergenerational Projects.

FACT, Jo Jingles and Derrylin GFS enjoyed a wonderful night of singing and dancing.  Songs from both generations were enjoyed and a little bit of line dancing to Nathan Carter was taught by Jo Jingles—Maureen Brown. Picture 1 and 2 show the GFS and FACT in Derrylin Parish Hall.

A reminiscent drama project was also facilitated by ClassActDrama Stephanie Kenny.  Stephanie worked with 1st Enniskillen Guides and The FACT Project members. Tuesday 10 March saw the drama enfold drawing from the personal experiences of FACT members: Florence Creighton, Sally Haire, Ivy Patton, Joan Bullock, Kitty Beattie, Ruby Arnold and Violet Gault.

The project evolved over 6 weeks with the guides compiling questions then interviewi ng FACT members on their memories.  These stories were then woven into a drama which was performed by the guides.  It was a wonderfully emotional event with many laughs and tears along the way.  The scene was set by the ladies reminiscing of times gone past and the many stories were portrayed through poetry, song and acting.  A slide show finished off the night with photos from each of the ladies past and their involvement with others in the FACT Project now.  Members were presented with a pot plant by the guides and guides received an Easter egg by way of thanks for their participation in the project.

Reflecting on the Intergenerational work undertaken Fermanagh Project Worker Sharon Howe said “We are absolutely delighted with the levels of interaction across the generational divide. Those young people who participated have a new appreciation of their grandparents’ generation and they better understand life as it was for them and the sort of antics they got up to.  The FACT Project will build further on this work in the times that lie ahead.”

The FACT Project is funded through The Big Lottery Project: Reaching Out Connecting Older People and you can contact Sharon on 028 677 22615 at the Fermanagh office for more information.
