To celebrate the Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) 40th anniversary the charity is hosting a special ‘Emotion’s Exhibition’ which will display a collection of writings and artwork produced by people who have been affected by cancer.
The ‘Emotions Exhibition’ is open to the public from Wednesday 14th to Friday 16th April from 10am-8pm and on Saturday 17th April from 10am-1pm at UCF’s Service Centre, 40/44 Eglantine Avenue, Belfast – admission is free.
Liz Atkinson, Head of Care Services, UCF said, “We are really excited about holding our first ‘Emotions Exhibition’ and we hope that lots of people will come along and support this unique event. All the exhibits have been created by people who have used UCF’s services including our art therapy and creative writing services and it explores the emotions experienced by people during the cancer journey.
“We know that cancer affects everyone differently however research shows that creating, through art and writing, can have a positive impact, helping to maintain or even improve a patient’s physical, mental and emotional well-being. The creative process can help people communicate anxiety or stress and unlock concerns or worries about cancer and the future.
“The ‘Emotions Exhibition’ is a great way to give a vision and voice to cancer patients and carers. We hope that the exhibition will be an inspiration to people living with cancer and will raise awareness of the impact of a cancer diagnosis on an individual and their families. We would like to thank all of the contributors for sharing their heartfelt emotions and for so willingly allowing their creative expressions and feelings to be made public. Special thanks also to Ikea, Potato Bred and W&G Baird for their support.”
An accompanying ‘Emotions’ book of artwork and writing which explores themes including hope, loss of identity, abandonment, release, anger, hurt and fighting spirit will be available to purchase at the exhibition for a special introductory price of £5 or to order a copy please call UCF on 028 9066 3281 with all proceeds in aid of UCF.
UCF’s art therapy and creative writing services are available free of charge in venues across Northern Ireland. For further information please call UCF’s Care Services team on 028 9066 3281 or click on www.ulstercancer.org
