Inequality and spending cuts in the spotlight

How will cuts to public spending effect already vulnerable and disadvantaged communities? Voice4Change England (V4CE) respond to the coalition’s plans for the spending review and ask how the Black and minority ethnic voluntary and community sector can continue to perform its vital role in tackling inequality and strengthening community cohesion.

V4CE warn the government about the risk of widening inequalities and remind them of their legal requirements in terms of meaningful equality impact assessments which are made public. The ongoing debate about generic versus specialist voluntary and community sector services is now more pertinent than ever. V4CE argue this is false choice between sub-sectors which need to work in support of one another.

They urge the government to base funding allocation on indications of deprivation, disadvantage and poverty, so the historically unmet needs of the most vulnerable are not ignored at this most crucial time.
