Global Xchange is coming to Belfast! Wanted: Host homes
An international experience from the comfort of your own home!
Do you have a spare room? Could you host a pair of Global Xchange volunteers for 2-12 weeks between January and March 2011?
In January 2011 an international team of 20 volunteers aged 18-25 will be arriving in Belfast.
Volunteers from Belfast, South Africa, Sierra Leone, USA and France will spend 12 weeks here and contribute over 6000 hours to local community projects.
Could you:
- Host 2 volunteers in your home? (For anything from 2 – 12 weeks, volunteers can share a room)
- Benefit from being part of a unique cultural exchange?
We provide:
- A weekly allowance (£100 per pair) to cover food and utilities
- Full support from 2 Programme Supervisors
Living in a host home is much more than food and shelter for the volunteers. It is an integral part of the programme that contributes to the volunteers’ learning. For hosts it is an opportunity to share local culture and learn about others’ cultures, and create links with other local hosts as well as countries overseas.
Requirements
- An interest in living and learning with the volunteers
- Be able to host 2 volunteers– volunteers can share a room and we can provide a bed if needed.
- Be able to host for between 2 and 12 weeks.
- Be able to provide breakfast, lunch & dinner – volunteers can cook for themselves where necessary (£100 per week, per pair is given to cover food and utilities costs).
- Anyone can host – single people, couples, parents with children, older people, single parents, friends…
- You are not expected to entertain the volunteers – they should become a normal part of the “family” and contribute to household chores etc as required
- The volunteers have to take responsibility for making their stay in a host home successful.
Global Xchange is a cross-cultural, international volunteering programme from VSO in partnership with the British Council.
