Help Consumer Council to stamp out online parcel problems

Consumer Council wants to learn about consumers’ experience of online delivery restrictions and exclusions to NI

The Consumer Council is launching an online survey to help find out more about NI consumers’ experience of delivery exclusions, restrictions or surcharges as a result of ordering online.

Speaking about the survey Kellin McCloskey, Head of Postal Services at the Consumer Council said: “We are keen to gather as much information as possible, given that almost half of Northern Ireland consumers shop online and a third of online retailers apply delivery restrictions/exclusions to NI.

“Restrictions can include higher charges, longer delivery times and refusal to deliver to NI, which can not only result in consumers in abandoning orders but also paying more.

“We also want to hear from consumers if they have experienced problems with unclear or potentially misleading delivery charges, such as ‘Free UK delivery’, but it later transpires that this doesn’t apply to consumers in NI.”

Kellin concluded “We are calling on all consumers who shop online to complete our survey; it takes just a few minutes. The information gathered will help us to lobby for change on behalf of all NI consumers.”

The survey will close on Friday 28 October 2016.  To complete the survey please visit www.consumercouncil.org.uk and click on the link ‘Online Parcel Delivery Problems’. Alternatively, the survey can be completed by telephoning freephone 0800 121 6022.
