Great Success for Habitat ReStore

Habitat ReStore, the low cost DIY store that builds hope and homes around the world, has enjoyed great success over the last eight months since it opened it's doors in the Riverside Centre, Lisburn in December 2012.

Habitat ReStore in Lisburn is the first of its kind in Europe, selling donated new and used building supplies and home improvement materials at a fraction of the cost.

Shop

At a time when everyone is feeling the squeeze, ReStore has quickly established itself at the centre of the local community, becoming a favourite with local bargain hunters. From bricks for 20p to dining tables for £20 and everything in between, ReStore has been helping local families to improve their homes at 50-75% of the normal retail value.

ReStore has been going from strength to strength in the last eight months and has just launched Kitchen Rescue- giving a new home to old kitchens.  The cost of a new kitchen is often beyond the reach of many low income families, but being able to buy a good quality, donated kitchen complete with units and appliances for as little as £400 can make such a difference.

Donate

Habitat ReStore could not have been such a success without the continued support and generosity of their donors. Niall McConkey, ReStore manager stated “The continuing success of the ReStore is dependent on the quality and quantity of donated products and that is where the continuing support of homeowners, churches, corporate donors and the construction sector in Northern Ireland is essential.” Whether it’s an unused wardrobe or a range of brand new baths, ReStore appreciates all donations, especially at a time when it has never been so important to help the local environment by keeping good reusable materials out of landfill.

If you would like to donate anything to ReStore, the donation centre is open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm in the Riverside Centre, Lisburn or alternatively you can call ReStore on 028 92 635 642 to arrange collection.

Volunteer

With over 40 committed volunteers helping out on a regular basis, ReStore is already offering practical volunteering opportunities for individuals and training organisations from across Northern Ireland. Volunteers come from all walks of life from retired people who want to give something back to the community, to young people keen to develop practical skills and gain experience in a retail environment. Billy has been volunteering at ReStore since April 2013 and believes “It’s important for older people to contribute and to feel they are making a difference. The volunteers are all really easy to get on with and overall it’s just a really nice place to work.”

We are looking for volunteers to join our Restore Team who will volunteer for 4 hours on a regular basis between Monday to Saturday either 9am-1pm or 1pm- 5pm.

Volunteering duties at ReStore are varied and provides an opportunity to be involved in lots of tasks including till operation, warehouse duties, reception, sales and collections.
