Unblocking Potential: A Bridge over Troublesome Knowledge

Venue: City East, City East Business Centre 68-72 Newtownards Road Belfast BT4 1GW

Date: 2nd June 2015 - 30 June (Every Tuesday)  Time: 9.30am-12.30pm        Fee: Funded places

This programmes wide range of learning outcomes will greatly contribute to the personal and professional development of the participant.  This short course will support you if you are considering returning to education. The program is aimed at presenting knowledge to expand understanding, developing intellectual qualities, providing the opportunity to learn and practice professional and practical skills, much of what is learnt will be transferable to other areas of life.

Participants will gain knowledge of the common barriers to learning and explore how early learning experiences have impacted on their current learning. Stress triggers will be identified and strategies for managing them will be devised.

Following a “Getting to Know You” session on week 1, participants will attend a further 5 sessions (3 hour) that will cover:

  • Identifying barriers to learning,
  • identifying Learning styles,
  • Time-management,
  • Mind-mapping and note-taking,
  • Working individually & in teams,
  • Research and gathering information
  • Managing the highs and lows of study – building strong support networks
  • Managing money – the cost of study and available supports
  • Where next? Sign-posting to further study.

Participants will also have an opportunity to attend a University Orientation and a University guest lecture.  Team work will be at the centre of the learning experience and participants skills around developing their strengths and opportunities will be greatly improved as a result, as will their capacity to find, record and share information.

This program is underpinned by a range of theories and practice models. Through a series of lectures, seminars, tutorials, and practical exercises participants will be enabled to relate those theories and models to real life situations, and explore in greater detail how to apply the learning to their own situation.
