Former CFNI Chair Shortlisted for CO3 Award

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland is delighted to announce that its former chair, Tony McCusker has been shortlisted for a ‘Trustee Award’ by CO3 (Chief Officers of the 3rd Sector) as part of the ‘CO3 Leadership awards 2016.’

The awards recognise the passion and successes of Third Sector leaders in Northern Ireland.

Tony played a crucial role in the life and growth of the Community Foundation for around nine years helping the Foundation address the needs of the voiceless and disadvantaged in communities throughout Northern Ireland and by attracting new funds to the Foundation.

Of his numerous achievements, Tony helped negotiate an exciting and significant new fund with Atlantic Philanthropies which will provide ten years of support for key local human rights organisations. Under Tony's leadership, the Foundation also led the establishment of the Building Change Trust, a ten year, £10m endowment to build the capacity of Northern Ireland’s voluntary sector.

A passionate supporter of the work of the Community Foundation, Tony has also represented the organisation at many key events; including leading our presence in the development of Philanthropy Fortnight, a partnership of organisations working to increase awareness of opportunities to give in Northern Ireland.

Speaking about the nomination, Andrew McCracken, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland said: “We are delighted that Tony has been shortlisted for this award. His commitment to and passion for the work of the Community Foundation has meant that the organisation is continuing to have a meaningful impact on communities throughout Northern Ireland.

“During Tony’s time in office, the Foundation embarked on a number of new and innovative initiatives including an Emergency Fund for new migrants to Northern Ireland and a ‘Voices’ project enabling marginalised groups to have their voices heard as well as the development of the Acorn Fund for Derry / Londonderry intended to address deep rooted social and economic imbalances experienced by local communities emerging from generations of conflict,” said Andrew.

The names of the winners will be unveiled at CO3’s flagship award gala dinner where 200 guests are expected on 25 February 2016 at Parliament Buildings, Stormont.
