Firefighters Brave the Shave

Firefighters from Green Watch, Whitla and throughout Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) are gearing up to shave their heads as part of the Brave the Shave initiative for  Macmillan Cancer Support.

Firefighter David Moreland explains why he and his colleagues are taking part: "Our motivation to support Macmillan's Brave the Shave is to show support for our colleague Kenny McEwan who was diagnosed with cancer in August this year.

“We know that cancer can affect anyone regardless of age but to see a colleague and friend - someone your own age – diagnosed, it really has an impact. Kenny has been an inspiration to us all - he has faced his illness with great stoicism and is incredibly upbeat.

“We've all been affected by his diagnosis and have followed his progress as he has undergone treatment - supporting him as best we could. By taking part in this initiative and raising money it feels like we are doing something tangible, standing shoulder to shoulder to help Kenny and the many others diagnosed with cancer.”

“We will Brave the Shave on Friday 4th November at the Hair Academy in Rosemary Street, Belfast from 9.45 am – 11.45am. If you're in the area please come down and support us or you can donate at https://bravetheshave.org.uk/shavers/green-watch-whitla/

Joanne Young, Fundraising Manager, Macmillan added “We are absolutely delighted that Firefighters from Green Watch, Whitla and throughout Eastern Area have signed up for this incredible challenge. Everyone knows Firefighters are brave but this is taking it to another level as so many step up to take on ‘Brave the Shave’. We can’t thank them enough for such fantastic support. We’ll be coming along to the Hair Academy on 4th November to support them and we’d urge everyone to come along and do the same!”
