Ten young people aged between 12 and 18 who are involved with VOYPIC’s Participation Service and from the Belfast area, won the Thomas Devlin Gold Award in the Belfast City Council’s Community Safety Awards. Thomas was a 15 year old boy who was murdered in August 2005. This award was set up in his memory and is presented to a project that addresses community safety issues through the arts. The young people worked with Wheelworks professional artists to create a short film entitled ‘Rejected’. This film is beautifully shot and is a thought provoking exploration of issues important to the young people including domestic violence, sectarianism, drugs and alcohol abuse, homophobia and war. Those involved were responsible for all aspects of the content and production.
