Donor Tracker? Keeping track of donations and donors

NICVA is holding a meeting on 16 September 2009 to discuss the need to develop a donor management database for use by charities and other good causes.

Fundraising from the general public is one of the main sources of finance for voluntary and community organisations but how good is the sector at communicating with donors and keeping track of donations it receives?

One of the best ways of organising communication with people who give is to use a donor management database. The problem is finding an affordable and accessible database to use.

Using a good database should mean that communication with donors is better - so people receive appropriate thanks for their generosity. It also means the right people can be asked to donate in other ways. A database can also make claiming gift aid more straightforward.

NICVA wants to explore the need to develop a system and has set up a development meeting in NICVA to consider the initiative.

"We will try a find a low cost or free alternative where available - but in the absence of this, will look at the possibility of developing our own donor management database" said Neil Irwin of NICVA.

"I would welcome anyone interested in looking at this issue - especially non-technical people to attend this meeting to inform how we progress on this area of fundraising"

The meeting details are available from the Fundraising Information Group website on www.communityni.org/event/donor-tracker-management-database-development.
