Consumer Council launches Money Tips for Parents

The new guide includes tips and information on pocket money, saving and budgeting and how to help children of all ages make good decisions about money.  The launch coincides with World Consumer Rights Day, today 15 March 2010.   

Carol Edwards, Head of Education at the Consumer Council said, “Trying to teach children about money can be difficult.  Nowadays many transactions are done without money changing hands, such as paying for goods by credit or debit card in a shop or online.  This can make it hard for children to understand how money works or even where it comes from[a].  They can also struggle with finances when they leave home because they don’t know how much it takes to run a household.

 “‘Money Tips for Parents’ is full of tips and practical ways for parents to teach their children about managing money and the importance of saving.  Free copies of the guide are available from the Consumer Council on 028 9067 2488 or www.consumercouncil.org.uk.”
