Connecting Communities - Community Transport linking communities to transport solutions

The CTA has launched a year long programme of events to enable communities to explore soltuions to improve access across Northern Ireland.

The CTA is a national charity providing advice and support to communities to enable locally led, accessible transport solutions to be delivered that suits the needs of local people.

Transport solutions include making use of community minibuses, developing volunteer car schemes, car sharing, travel training, enabling people to use/link to public transport options and much more.

CTA ‘Connects Communities’ through a community development process to enable facilitation of improved access across Northern Ireland.

The first event in the Connecting Communities programme is being held 16th June 10.30am - 2pm in Grosvenor House, Belfast (see communityni.org events pages for more details). The meeting is open to both members of the CTA and any other community organisations, statutory bodies or individuals who want to learn more about local transport opportunities and community led solutions.

CTA's second event in the ‘Connecting Communities’ programme is a workshop being held 5th October 2010. During that event you, the community, will have a chance to voice your concerns and issues about access.

Through 'Connecting Communities' the CTA will develop a partnership approach between transport providers, communities and others to address the issues raised during the workshop to create an improved, shared, transport system that will work for us all.

CTA will during the year complete research to support the first ever State of the Sector report for the comunity transport sector. The results will indicate the size and capacity of community led transport solutions in Northern Ireland. The research is expected to provide evidence of the amount of voluntary and charitable work being delivered to enable isolated and socially excluded people to take part in community life.
