Conference for World Suicide Prevention Day (10/9/14): 'Suicide in Northern Ireland: Research and Realities'

There will be a half-day conference in Belfast for World Suicide Prevention Day which is on Sept 10th, 2014. This conference would be suitable for academics, researchers, mental health professionals and those working in the community and voluntary sector.

In 2013, 303 deaths were registered as suicides in Northern Ireland (source: NISRA). Figures from the same agency show that only the 313 deaths registered as suicides in 2010 exceeds this number. This half-day conference on suicide in Northern Ireland spans two strands and will bring together researchers and those working at the frontline of suicide prevention and will address a range of questions, including those below

  • What does recent research tell us about suicide in Northern Ireland?
  • What does an organisation at the frontline of suicide prevention do and who do they support?
  • What are some of the myths in relation to suicide?
  • What role do you have to play in the prevention of suicide?
