New Regional Food Sharing Network for Sector
Could the work of your organisation benefit from a regional food bank? CHNI have been funded by SafeFood and the Food Standards Agency to set up a food sharing network for Northern Ireland over the coming year. They need to hear from you to map the potential take-up of this resource.
The model CHNI is adopting for the network, works with the food industry to give the voluntary and community sector access to the full range of food products - frozen, chilled, dairy, fresh fruit and vegetables as well as the non-perishable ambient foodstuffs most associated with food banks. This is distributed to network members from a central distribution centre. The UK mainland organisation FareShare works in this way and CHNI are in negotiations to bring the franchise to the region.
Does your organisation supply your clients with any food or meals? CHNI want to hear from everyone who supplies tea and biscuits or the occasional sandwich, right through to larger projects offering meals in accommodation projects or perhaps even lunch clubs or cookery classes? If you can benefit from food supplied through this new network or would just like to know more, log on to the CHNI website at www.chni.org.uk or contact Alison Upton by email at foodnetwork@chni.org.uk or telephone 08290 246440.
