The Ulster Cancer Foundation (UCF) will be marking its 40th anniversary with a special interdenominational Celebration of Life service on Sunday 18th April 2010 at 3.00pm, Fisherwick Presbyterian Church, Belfast.

Liz Atkinson, Head of Care Services, UCF said, “Our Celebration of Life service is one of the highlights in our special anniversary year.   As Northern Ireland’s longest established cancer charity, we’re very proud to have been serving the local community for the last 40 years.

“The theme of the service is one of thanksgiving and hope.  It provides an opportunity to celebrate the strength and courage of people who live with cancer and to give thanks for those who care for them.  It is also an opportunity to remember family and friends who have lost their lives to the disease and reflect on the inspiration they have been.

“Guest speaker is Professor Roy Spence, Chairman of the Ulster Cancer Foundation.  Professor Spence is Consultant Surgeon specialising in breast cancer at Belfast City Hospital. He is an Honorary Professor at Queen’s University, Belfast and an Honorary Professor and Pro Chancellor at the University of Ulster.

“We are also delighted to have St Dominic’s Grammar School Choir from West Belfast providing the music along with guest organist Mark McGrath and soloist Rachel Atkinson.  Rev Derek McKelvey from Fisherwick Presbyterian Church; Father Gerard Fox, Chaplain at Belfast City Hospital and Rev Derek Johnston, Chaplain at the Royal Victoria Hospital will also be participating in the service.

Anyone wishing to attend the Celebration of Life service will be made most welcome and light refreshments will be served after the event.
