Our forest-dwelling furry friend is in NI and keen to visit from the 12th to 24th of April.

He will be stopping at a number of different places across the province, visiting people who are organising Big Lunches later this year.

If you want him to come and see you –visit a nearby school or local group, or even come and see children in your street – then entering the competition  is easy.

Registering to do a Big Lunch could not be simpler – just sign up online at www.thebiglunch.com for a free starter pack and within a few days you will have all the materials necessary.

You can ask the Gruffalo to visit your area by forwarding your confirmation email to [email protected] together with  your contact information, details about your Big Lunch plans and a brief note about why the Gruffalo should visit your chosen space in April and what you will involve him in.

Big Lunches can be any size – from a gathering of friends in your garden to a large street party with the local community – can have any theme, and can even be a great way to raise money for good causes. It is your Big Lunch and you can do with it what you want!

First published in 1999, The Gruffalo is the much loved character from bestselling books written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

He is being brought to Northern Ireland with help from Magic Light Pictures, which produced two award winning half hour animated films, The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child.

Grainne McCloskey, NI Manager for The Big Lunch, said: “The Big Lunch is delighted to bring the Gruffalo here again. Last year a number of children from across Northern Ireland got to meet the much-loved character and he was hugely popular. If you are planning a Big lunch this year he may well pop around to your neck of the woods this April.”

Joanne McDowell, Northern Ireland Director of the Big Lottery Fund, said: “We are delighted to again be supporting The Big Lunch. It is all about bringing people together and everywhere that gets a visit from the Gruffalo will have a fantastic time. The Big Lunch itself has a brilliant impact on communities and we are really looking forward to seeing how many people take part in 2016.”
