Memory Walk is Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest fundraising event, held in over a hundred locations every September. This year there will be 12 flagship walks across Northern Ireland, England and Wales, including the Northern Ireland flagship.
Councillor Convery says, ‘As Lord Mayor of Belfast and on behalf of Belfast City Council I would like to show my support for Alzheimer’s Society and their Memory Walk 2010. It’s an important event for people across Northern Ireland who are affected by dementia, and to have a flagship walk in Belfast again this year is great news.'
There are currently over 17,000 people with dementia in Northern Ireland, and the money raised by the Belfast flagship walk will help them and their families to attend support groups and dementia cafes provided by Alzheimer's Society.
Caroline Greer, Partnerships Development Exec for Alzheimer’s Society in Belfast says, ‘It’s fantastic to have the Lord Mayor’s support for Memory Walk. The relationship is one which we welcome and are we proud to have this association with Belfast City Council.
‘Thanks to the support of healthcare provider Simplyhealth, Memory Walk is able to support more people living with dementia through the vital funds that are raised. Our flagship Memory Walk in Belfast will be a fun day out for all the family, with lots of activity and entertainment, as well as a choice of walks around Ormeau Park’.
The Belfast flagship Memory Walk will take place at 11am on Sunday 26 September in Ormeau Park. To register for the Memory Walk please visit www.memorywalk.org.uk/northernireland and help Alzheimer’s Society fight dementia every step of the way.
