Aurion Learning celebrate another successful year of partaking in literacy initiative ‘Time to Read’

Operating in over 100 schools in Northern Ireland, Time to Read is a ground-breaking literacy programme organised by Business in the Community.

Throughout this academic year, several members of the Aurion Learning team have been donating one hour of their working week to read with Key Stage Two children in local primary schools.

Speaking about the initiative, Hugh McGivern, Vice Principal at Holy Rosary Primary School said:

“The Time to Read programme is a great success as it has been to shown to improve the children's reading age compared to their chronological age every year through taking part. The children's self-esteem and confidence grows through participation in the programme and the volunteers work hard to instil enjoyment in the differing reading genre being introduced.”

During yesterday’s visit, pupils were given a tour of the company and the opportunity to pitch questions to members of staff regarding their work.

In addition, the students spent time in small groups working through online resource Safe Home 4 Me. The resource was developed by Aurion Learning and teaches children how to prevent accidents happening in the home using a series of interactive videos and games.

“The growth and progress in reading ability of those kids involved in the Time to Read programme provides clear vindication of our participation and continuous involvement in this excellent initiative and is a great source of both pride and joy for all staff volunteers as well. We look forward to continuing our work with Holy Rosary Primary School in the future.”
