We offer formal and non-formal training for those working in the advice sector, community & voluntary sector, local authorities, legal & financial institutions who wish to develop their skillset. Our courses include nationally and locally accredited qualifications as well as continued professional development (CPD) training.

Advice NI also offers in-house training and/or workshops at a time, date or location convenient to you. We can amend existing courses to meet your specific needs or fully develop courses based on your training requirements.

Level 2 Award in Independent Advocacy

Tuesday, 14 June 2016 - 10:30am to Tuesday, 21 June 2016 - 4:00pm

This Award is an introductory qualification for candidates who are interested in acquiring knowledge about the role of an Independent Advocate. It comprises the unit ‘Understanding the Purpose and Role of the Independent Advocate’. This is a knowledge based unit. What the Course covers: The qualification has 4 learning outcomes: Understand the principles of Independent Advocacy. Understand the role of the Independent Advocate. Understand communication methods used in Independent Advocacy. Understand equality, diversity and inclusion.

Who Should Attend: 

This course is aimed at a range of learners including those who are new to advocacy and seeking an introductory qualification; volunteers and peer advocates; other professionals interested in Independent Advocacy.

Fees: 

The fees for the course are as follows: Advice NI Members - Non-Accredited Course Only- £115, Accredited Qualification -£165 Voluntary and Community Sector - Non-Accredited Course Only - £145, Accredited Qualification -£195 Public and Statutory Sector - Non-Accredited Course Only -£185, Accredited Qualification £225

CPD Hours: 

There are 12 CPD hours available for this course.

Education/Professional Framework: 

The educational framework of this award including its status on the QCF is explained in the section ‘Accreditation’. The course links to a range of National Occupational Standards including: HSC367 – Support Individuals to Access independent Representation & Advocacy IB4/IB5 - First Line Discrimination Legal Advice/Casework IB21/IB22 – First Line Health and Community Care Legal Advice/Casework. IB7/IB8 – First Line Mental Health Legal Advice/Casework. LA1 – Establish Communication with Clients

Accreditation: 

The Level 2 Award is accredited by City and Guilds. Successful completion of this course and the required assignment are worth 4 Credits at Level 2 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. It enables candidates to progress to the Level 3 Certificate and/or the Level 3 Diploma in Independent Advocacy. There are no entry requirements for the Award.

 

Understanding Debts & Courts in Northern Ireland (S)

Monday, 13 June 2016 - 10:30am to Monday, 20 June 2016 - 4:00pm

This skilled level course will enable you to understand the structures, jurisdiction, and procedures of courts in NI in relation to debt cases and bring this to life with a court visit. Whilst this course is not part of the MAS accredited cluster. It is a pre-requisite for Skills for Effective Advocacy which is a requirement for Case work and Specialist MAS accreditation. This course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3.

Who Should Attend: 

Wiseradviser courses are appropriate to anyone currently working with vulnerable clients facing financial difficulties.

Fees: 

All Wiseradviser courses are FREE to members of the following MAT partner agencies: • Advice NI • Citizens Advice NI • Step Change • Institute of Money Advisers (IMA) However, for accredited courses a £55 charge is applied for those seeking OCNNI accreditation (Note: this is £80 for the Insolvency course, which has 4 modules). Accreditation is currently optional for accredited courses but the paperwork must be completed for MAS accreditation

CPD Hours: 

It is worth 12 CPD hours.

Education/Professional Framework: 

As explained above Wiseradviser training can enable participants to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the Money Advice Service quality framework for individuals. This framework is mapped against a variety of NOS, so by achieving the relevant training advisers can demonstrate that they meet the NOS associated with that activity set (see pathway on page 21). The Advice Work activity set, for example, covers 9 NOS including ‘First Line Money and Debt Legal Advice/ Casework’ and ‘Provide and Receive Referrals on Behalf of Clients’. The courses link to a range of NOS beyond those covered by the MAS quality mark, including ‘Providing First Line Consumer Legal Advice/Casework’, ‘First line Housing Legal Advice/Casework’, ‘First Line Mental Health Legal Advice/Casework’. The Wiseradviser courses can be used as evidence towards a range of units in the Advice and Guidance and Legal Advice qualifications. This includes ‘Negotiate on Behalf of Clients (Unit 11), ‘Support Clients to Make Use of Advice and Guidance Services’ (Unit 2), and ‘Present Cases for Clients in Formal Proceedings’.

Accreditation: 

There are three levels to Wiseradviser training – Generalist Level (G) (provides basic principles of money advice), Skilled Level (S) (develops skills and knowledge of generalist money advisers), and Specialist Level (SP) (helps advisers deal with more complex cases). Most Wiseradviser courses are accredited with OCNNI at Level 3 or 4 and we will apply for the Skillsmark endorsement within the coming year. See individual courses for further details. Learners must meet pre-entry requirements for skilled and specialist Wiseradviser courses. These can be found at http://www.wiseradviser.org

Dealing with Challenging Client Scenarios

Thursday, 23 June 2016

10:30am to 4:00pm

This practical and interactive course will explore common challenges that arise when working with clients in the provision of advice services. It will identify and share helpful methods for dealing with such challenging circumstances and focus on how to respond in a safe and positive way to such challenges. It will cover: Understanding the reasons for challenging behaviour. Explore the meaning of “a difficult or challenging” client. Dealing with the potential for violence and aggression. Positive and transparent complaints handling. Positive and practical strategies for dealing with difficult clients and scenarios. Practice dilemmas.

Who Should Attend: 

Anyone working directly with clients, customers and service users in an advice role, face to face and via the telephone. It is useful for both new and experienced staff.

Fees: 

There is a charge of £75 to Advice NI Members, £95 to Voluntary and Community Sector organisations and £125 to Private and Statutory Sector organisations.

CPD Hours: 

There are 6 CPD hours available for this course.

Education/Professional Framework: 

This course can be used as evidence towards a range of units in our Advice and Guidance NVQ’s and Legal Advice qualifications ‘Establish Communications with Clients’ (Unit 1). It is also linked to the National Occupational Standards for Legal Advisers including ‘SFJ GC9: Contribute to the prevention and management of inappropriate behaviour’.

Tailoring Advice: Strategies and Options for Dealing with Debt (S)

Monday, 27 June 2016 - 10:30am to Monday, 4 July 2016 - 4:00pm

This skilled level course goes through tried and tested strategies which will support you to work with clients in line with Codes of Practice and guidelines. It is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3. This is a core course for those seeking MAS accreditation at Advice Work or above.

Good Practice: Providing High-Quality Debt Advice (G)

This course is designed for advisers dealing with debt at all levels, who want to provide a high quality, effective and measurable debt advice service. It provides an opportunity to explore key factors to promote good practice in dealing with debt cases which includes; cases management, referrals and quality frameworks, including support and supervision. This course is accredited with OCNNI at Level 3. This is a core course for those seeking MAS accreditation at Advice Work or above.

Who Should Attend:
