24 July - or 24:7 - is the perfect day to tell the world that Samaritans are there to answer calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year.
A Samaritans volunteer on the phone
The Samaritans is the only service which is always there for people who need emotional support, whether by telephone, email, letter or face to face.
Up and down the UK and Ireland, Samaritans branches are putting on events to promote the work done by the organisation, raise funds and attract new volunteers.
Look out for collections, which will be running all day, in shopping centres.
To support 13,000 telephone calls, letters, emails, texts and face-to-face chats a day, Samaritans has to raise £20,000 every day. In an average year, a volunteer will be contacted almost 300 times and give over 140 hours to people who feel desperate and need someone to
talk to.
