Business in the Community is set to help organisations look further ahead than they may be accustomed to through its Responsible Business Conference ‘Looking to the Future, Not the Next Annual Report’, on Thursday 16 October at the Ramada Hotel, Shaw’s Bridge.

Leading speakers, some of whom are visiting Northern Ireland for the first time, include Asda CEO Andy Clarke; Richard Gillies, Head of Sustainability for Kingfisher Group (B&Q); Dr Sally Uren, Chief Executive of, Forum for the Future; Andrew Cave, Chief Sustainability Officer at RBS; Alison Ward of CottonConnect and Chris Hyman, CBE, ex-CEO of Serco.

CEOs are being challenged at the start of the day through a CEO Breakfast Forum where the debate will be opened up by encouraging them to think about the importance of leadership in challenging times and how they can plan now to address future challenges sustainably and responsibly.

In partnership with the CBI and sponsored by Ulster Bank, the CEO Breakfast will be followed by a full day conference where over 200 businesses of all sizes and from all sectors will contribute to the debate.

Gillian McKee, Deputy Managing Director at Business in the Community explains the rationale for the conference: “Ensuring business is fit for the future should be at the top of the agenda for all companies. In a world full of uncertainties, this conference is perfectly timed to help companies in Northern Ireland take a long-term view of their business and to make good, responsible decisions which will help them ensure they’re still around and still successful by 2039. Attendees will have access to leading-edge thinking on how best to address some of the challenges they can expect to face in the next quarter century.”

Stephen Cruise, Head of Branch Banking, Private & Specialist Financial Advice at Ulster Bank said: "Annual Reports will always be one of the vital reporting tools for businesses. Yet increasingly companies need to reflect on a much broader range of factors as part of their success and long-term sustainability and these will also form an integral part of their annual reporting. This conference will play a key part in encouraging that change in mindset among Northern Ireland companies."

Other sponsoring companies involved include; ASDA; AV Browne; Belfast Harbour; Carecall and Diageo NI.
