Job Title: Youth Counselling Co-ordinator
Background: The Youth Counselling Co-ordinator will lead the
Development of the Open Door Youth Counselling
Programme, leading a team of volunteers, specialist
therapists, as well as developing partnerships with
voluntary and statutory services. The role will carry
responsibility for meeting agreed targets, in terms of
outputs and outcomes for the project.
Accountability: EBCC Project Manager and the Chairman of East Belfast Community Counselling
Role:
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the Open Door Youth Project, providing evidence based plans and activities to further the development of the project
- Interview, select, lead, manage and inspire the sessional and volunteer counsellors, as well as insuring all guidelines are adhered to, in line with Access NI Enhanced Disclosures and BACP Framework
- Assess the needs of clients both directly and indirectly, as well as providing appropriate therapeutic interventions to meet these needs.
- Ensure client targets are met
- Build relationships with partner organizations
- Ensure the highest quality in delivery and effectiveness of the project, and
- Lead the development of the Open Door Project ensuring that it delivers value for money and social returns
- Assist in the monitoring of the East Belfast Community Counselling’s equality and diversity, safeguarding, child protection and quality assurance frameworks
- Maintain the highest standards of delivery through stringent quality control
Responsibilities
- Provide operational management, overseeing the delivery of the project and a strategic overview
- Oversee appropriate reporting structures
- Lead and manage the volunteers and sessional counsellors involved in the project, assessing client need for specialist interventions such as art, music, drama or family therapy
- Actively involved in counselling service delivery
- Identifying appropriate training for all counsellors involved in programme delivery
- Manage and hold responsibility for the budget for the project
- Develop and maintain key working partnerships for the life of the project
- Manage risk and safeguarding issues in accordance with appropriate legal and ethical requirements
- Maintain records in accordance with procedures
- Undertake such other duties as may be required
Time Commitment
The working week consists of 35 hours. The usual working day will be 9 00am to 5 00pm Monday to Friday with 1 hour for lunch. Given the nature of the work there may be a need to work outside of these hours from time to time. Time in lieu will be available for such hours worked.
Remuneration
The salary will be NJC scale SO2 - £27,051
Period of Appointment
This post is funded until 31st March 2015. The contract maybe extended beyond this, subject to funding.
Location
The postholder will be based at East Belfast Community Counselling office, 126 Bloomfield Avenue, Belfast

Education
Hold a Level 4 Counselling Diploma
Level 5 Diploma in CBT
Experience
Minimum 2 years post-qualification supervised clinical practice, with at least 300 hours of post-qualifying supervised practice
Developing partnerships within the statutory and voluntary sector
Project development within a community setting
Leading a team of volunteers
